About PriceShift
An independent record of how software prices move, built so the numbers can be checked.
Last reviewed
PriceShift is an independent project that watches public SaaS pricing pages and publishes what changed, when, and by how much.
Why this exists
Software price changes are announced in places nobody reads. A vendor posts a changelog entry, sends a marketing email, or simply changes a number on a pricing page, and the new price arrives on your invoice at renewal. There is no reliable way to answer a question that a finance lead or an engineering manager genuinely needs answered: has this got more expensive?
Plenty of sites will tell you what a tool costs today. Very few will tell you what it cost eighteen months ago, whether it went up, and what specifically changed. That gap is the entire product.
What we actually do
- Fetch each vendor's public pricing page on a published schedule.
- Extract structured pricing data: plan names, prices, billing periods, seat minimums and usage limits.
- Diff it against the previous stored snapshot, field by field.
- Publish the difference with a timestamp and a link to the source.
Nothing here is derived from vendor press releases, marketing copy, or affiliate review sites. The full technical approach is in the methodology, including the cases where we deliberately decline to report a change.
How this is funded
By advertising, and nothing else. That has one important consequence worth stating plainly: we take no affiliate commission from any vendor we track, and we are not able to sell a placement in the change feed. A vendor cannot pay to have an increase suppressed, softened, or delayed. If that were possible, the dataset would be worthless and so would the site.
Advertising does shape one thing: vendors pay to be listed in an ad unit, which is labelled as advertising everywhere it appears. No ad is ever rendered inside a change entry, a vendor history, or a guide.
Who runs this
This is an independent project, not the product of a company with a commercial interest in any vendor listed here.
Site owner details to be completed before launch. Add a real name, a short biography, and a location here. An about page without an accountable person behind it is a weaker trust signal than no about page at all, and this site is asking to be trusted about verifiable facts. Contact details are in the contact page.
Known limitations
We would rather state these than have you find them:
- Pricing pages are not standardised. Some are fully machine-readable, some are not. Extraction quality varies by vendor and is shown on each page where relevant.
- Negotiated pricing is invisible. We see list pricing only. Enterprise discounts and annual contract rates negotiated privately are not public and not tracked.
- Regional pricing varies. We record the price as shown from our crawler, which requests a US default. Prices in other currencies and regions differ.
- Detection is not instant. A change appears when the next scheduled crawl runs, not the moment a vendor presses publish.
- Usage-based prices are excluded. They move by definition, and reporting them would be noise rather than signal.
Corrections
Extraction can and does go wrong. When it does, tell us and we will correct the record, remove anything we published in error, and note the correction publicly in the changelog. We do not quietly edit history, because a corrected record that is not visibly corrected is not a correction.
